Motion Capture (Mo-Cap) in Europe
Comment:
I have been in contact with a few studios in Sweden, UK, France and Germany. I potentially will book with them and fly out and do the Mo-Caps. Just curious if we had any facilities here in Ireland. I can see this as a great hinderance to any serious game efforts here in Ireland.
I did find which seems very reasonable, and I guess you do get what you pay for, but for testing its pretty damn good

Trinity College Dublin
2005: The Image Synthesis Group in the Dept. of Computer Science, which I founded and now co-manage, has the Vicon setup in our main lab. We are currently using it for character animation research.
We could potentially be interested in making it available for a modest fee or in other arrangement depending on the circumstance. It’s a nice rig, but proviso is we’re still coming to terms with it, not having had it for very long…

We are delighted to announce that we now have motion capture technology capable of capturing full body as well as facial animation. Motion capture technology is used to capture the realistic motion and facial expressions of an actor.

Retro Studios (Metroid Prime)
2005: Retro Studios have a dedicated Vicon mo-cap facilities inhouse.
Many studios have their own mocap setups these days. EA have a huge one up in Vancouver and Sony have a pretty big one down in San Diego (size of a basketball court).
Vicon are probably the most popular for games and movies, but Motion Analysis is the other biggie and they are very popular for high precision stuff like medical applications. But they do games as well.
Right now we’re dealing with the data raw (because that’s what we do), but getting FilmBox/MotionBuilder for cleaning the data is something we might do if there were demand for the facility. The Floor space is limited though, so you won’t be doing a cavalry charge or anything, but might be useful to more modest captures. Usable floor space is probably 5m square.

When theatre meets technology ...
Ciaran Bermingham, a talented Cork actor

Background
During a visit to Setanta College, (Thurles, Ireland) we were introduced to the concept of motion capture (mo-cap) After working with organic motion capture, I (Helena) was drawn to it’s potential use in Theatre. So when Gobstar was able to borrow the perception neuron suit from John, we decided to get going and organised a week at the Triskel Theatre Development Centre (TDC), where we could experiment with using live animation in theatre.
The week at the TDC was indispensable. We got the opportunity to experiment with live animation in a theatre space and were able to work with experienced performers who examined the possibilities and boundaries of what we can currently do in live animation. Even though our time in the Triskel was so short we were able to do a showing of sections of our experimentation to a theatre audience. It was divided into two sections, a narrative section, which told the story of pinocchio and an improvised section.
Our performers for the showing were Clelia Crawford, a Drama and Theatre Studies student from University College Cork, and dancer Maria Sinnecker, who improvised using the perception neuron suit. We experimented with two very different styles for the showing. The style of the narrative was very cartoony and playful while the improvisation style was a semi-realistic programme which allowed Maria to operate a mannequin styled character.
The improvised dancing animation was very well received and was incredibly interesting to watch. Even though at one point there was a slight glitch it was still very absorbing. The narrative that we worked on using the more cartoony style had a few glitches, we would need more time to work in a theatre environment to work out if these glitches are avoidable or not. Through the exploration we found so much potential in live animation. We found a delicate balance between the live performer and the character in things like facial expression.

ANAMO, the story to date ...
11th March 2015 was the first time I came across the concept of 'mo-cap' or motion capture.
I was at a 'game fleadh' in the Limerick Institute of Technology (Thurles) when I met guys who had purchased a top of the range Organic Motion - motion capture system - that they were using in their sports science work.
Within minutes my mind was racing as I considered its possible uses. In the weeks and months to come, as I researched the subject I learned how it was playing its part in the move towards Digital Health (medical diagnostics) and was also proving very cost effective when used in digital media.

Attack, understanding what a D.D.O.S. will do ...
The following video shows the first three minutes of an actual DDoS attack on a company's Transmission Control Protocol Synchronize (TCP SYN) authentication.
This type of attack is usually used to overwhelm a server's available TCP connections with phony requests.
On the far lower right corner of the screen, a log counter tallies the number of log events shown in this example.
Note that the first 30,000 log events happening during the first three minutes of this specific DDoS attack. As a size reference, the full attack would have millions of events.
EXPLANATION: What is a DDOS attack ?
A denial-of-service attack (DoS attack) or distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS attack) is an attempt to make a computer resource unavailable to its intended users. Although the means to carry out, motives for, and targets of a DoS attack may vary, it generally consists of the concerted efforts of a person or people to prevent an Internet site or service from functioning efficiently or at all, temporarily or indefinitely.
Perpetrators of DoS attacks typically target sites or services hosted on high-profile web servers such as banks, credit card payment gateways, and even root nameservers. The term is generally used with regards to computer networks, but is not limited to this field; for example, it is also used in reference to CPU resource management.
One common method of attack involves saturating the target machine with external communications requests, such that it cannot respond to legitimate traffic, or responds so slowly as to be rendered effectively unavailable. In general terms, DoS attacks are implemented by either forcing the targeted computer(s) to reset, or consuming its resources so that it can no longer provide its intended service or obstructing the communication media between the intended users and the victim so that they can no longer communicate adequately.
Denial-of-service attacks are considered violations of the IAB's Internet proper use policy, and also violate the acceptable use policies of virtually all Internet service providers. They also commonly constitute violations of the laws of individual nations.
How do you protect yourself against a DDOS attack ?

How to write a Working Parent Resume
I have helped raise three children. Nothing I’ve done in life - working over a 40 + year period has taught me as much about systems, leadership, discipline as raising those kids. Here are a few things I'd add to my resume if I were entering the job market tomorrow:
Skills:
- Exceptional organizational skills that have helped me juggle multiple high-stress priorities
- Effective communication skills and patience (well, maybe not so much of that) for managing a diverse range of personalities
Experience:
- Regularly developed innovative solutions to seemingly intractable problems on a daily basis—seven days a week, with no vacations or holidays
- Led high-pressure negotiations with no advance preparation
... and this is only the beginning
